About Dominik

More than an instructor. A partner at eye level.

I'm Dominik Danczewitz, born in 1966, married and father of two grown-up daughters. I live in beautiful Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

My passion for flying started early – and it has never let me go. For over 45 years I have been in aviation: first as a glider and motor pilot, then as a first officer, then as a captain – on short-, medium- and long-haul routes. And now? I love passing on my knowledge and experience – as a flight instructor, examiner and coach.

"My principle: examinations should confirm and develop. It's not about ticking off checklists, but about constructive cooperation. I want you to leave the airfield after your proficiency check not only with your current rating, but also with a good feeling and strengthened confidence."

IFR Basics for VFR Pilots

Safe out of the cloud. Your emergency plan.

What do you do as a VFR pilot when you unexpectedly end up in IMC? This course teaches you the life-saving fundamentals of instrument flying – so you react calmly and correctly in a stress situation:

  • Theory evenings: fundamentals of instrument flying, dangers of spatial disorientation
  • Flight exercises under the hood (Foggles/Hood): straight flight, turns, climbs and descents purely on instruments
  • Real IFR experience: we deliberately fly into clouds so you learn in actual conditions
  • Emergency procedures: 180-degree turn, communication with ATC, Radar Vectors
  • Building trust in your instruments – your body lies in the cloud
  • Ideal stepping stone to full IR training or as safety training for VFR pilots

FAQ

Answers to your questions.

My SEP rating expired 2 years ago. What now?

No problem. We create an individual training plan based on your previous experience. After an assessment (€ 100) we fly the necessary VFR training (€ 90/h block time) and complete with a Proficiency Check (€ 180). The training follows your pace.

Can I be trained on my own aircraft?

Absolutely – that's actually the ideal scenario. Training on your own aircraft is often the most effective because you know your own cockpit and systems. Requirement: the aircraft must be insured and airworthy.

How does a typical checkride (SEP revalidation) work?

We meet at the agreed airfield. First a briefing (approx. 30–45 min.), then the flight itself (approx. 60–90 min. depending on the rating), and then a debriefing. The whole appointment takes about 3 hours. You receive the entry in your license immediately.

What does an SEP revalidation cost in total?

The refresher training including paperwork and license entry costs € 180. On top of that come only the costs for your aircraft. For a combo revalidation (SEP/MEP + IR) you pay only € 250 for everything together.

Do you also offer theory instruction?

Yes, especially for IFR training and systems knowledge (e.g. Garmin G1000). Theory sessions can also take place via video call – flexible and without travel.

What documents do I need to bring?

Your pilot license, a valid medical, ID, logbook and – if available – previous examination reports. I'll tell you exactly what you need in advance.

I'm Dutch and want to do my check in Germany. Is that possible?

Yes, of course. As an EASA examiner I can conduct proficiency checks for all EASA license holders, regardless of the issuing country. Many of my clients come from the Netherlands – I also speak English.

How far will you travel to me?

My core area is NRW, Lower Saxony and Bremen – e.g. Münster, Dortmund, Paderborn, Osnabrück and surroundings. Travel costs are € 0.30/km. Beyond that we'll find an individual solution.

Can I get a DA62 conversion if I don't have MEP yet?

The DA62 requires a MEP rating. If you don't have one yet, we can work on that together. I'm happy to advise you on the entire path – from MEP training to DA62 differences training.

What if I let my IR rating expire?

If your IR has expired, renewal rather than revalidation is required. You may need to complete refresher training before you can be re-examined. I'll help you with that.
